Incredible Alpine Adventure

Incredible Alpine Adventure

Just sharing a recent hunting adventure. I had just finished building a purpose built Australian Alpine rifle in 30.06 from a Parkerhale Deluxe, I had in my safe that wasn't being used needing a re-barrel due to an inch of barrel at the crown the rifling was worn out. Anyway, needed to lighten the stock reduced the barrel length run a lighter scope and mounts setup and it came in at around 3.6KG I was prepared to lose a little in fps as you would not normally shoot any further than 400 yards in the Australian Alpine.
I have just got back from a week in the Australian Alpine, it was a fantastic relaxing trip, I love the peace and quiet.
The rifle performed exceptionally well; I didn't get anymore time to test before the trip but was confident the load I had developed would be ok. Well, it was cold bore shot at 310 yards slight trailing wind ridge to ridge uphill at about 1200 feet using the sling and a tree as good rest was able to take a nice Sambar Hind about 2 years old. Broad side impact exactly behind the shoulder, impact was at 2100fps and 1958 ft Ibs of energy she expired about 20 yards from being hit bullet retained about 50% and stopped just inside her righthand side.
Anyway hope you enjoy a couple of pics, and I hope you all have success in your upcoming hunts were ever you are. She is providing excellent meat for my family.
